The Mangyan, the small people on the island of Mindoro, are seen by many in the Philippines as backward and lacking in culture. These people used to own the island, but for many years now, their land has been taken away from them and they are being pushed back into the mountains. The missionary, Ewald Dinter, provides them with support, not only in the struggle for their land. As the leader of the Mangyan Mission he tries to provide them with education opportunities and to preserve their cultural identity.
